There are two things that will reduce the risk of injury in the case of an accident: personal protective equipment, and equipment safety features.  In general, power equipment will have safety features in the form of guards or automatic stops.  Never operate equipment that has guards removed or automatic stops disabled.

Your employer will make you aware of safety features particular to the equipment you are using.
