Welcome to the Fundamentals of Strategic Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation for Managers . You are taking an important step towards becoming a more effective strategic planner, implementor and evaluator in your managerial role.

What is this course all about?

Fundamentals of Strategic Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation for Managers is an introductory course for public works and housing managers in First Nation communities. It specifically looks at the utilization of a strategic plan and why they are important for this field. This course is applicable to many of the duties that public works and housing managers conduct in their field. Knowing how to create, implement and evaluate a plan is multi-purposeful and improves many tasks done by managers. Some of the specific topics this course addresses include change management, continuous learning culture, policy development and implementation, leveraging resources, system thinking, and succession planning.

This course is divided into six lessons that focus on fundamentals of strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation for managers . There is also a Capstone assignment that pulls together all of your learning over the six lessons into a key presentation or take away.

Additionally, this course is designed for public works and housing managers in First Nation communities, focusing on the importance of a strategic plan. It covers change management, continuous learning culture, policy development, leveraging resources, system thinking, and succession planning to improve daily tasks conducted by managers.

Course Objectives

  1. Be able to identify what a strategic plan is and what it looks like.
  2. Be able to create a mission and vision for a strategic plan.
  3. Be able to define external and internal analysis and combine them for a SWOT analysis.
  4. Be able to involve key stakeholders such as the community in the strategic planning process.
  5. Be able to implement a strategic plan by creating an operational plan.
  6. Be able to develop a strategic plan and identify areas of improvement in a strategic plan.
  7. Be able to evaluate important strategic alliances, partnerships and utilize benchmarking for opportunities to improve.
  8. Be able to report findings with the community and other relative stakeholders.
